John Carl Buechler – filmmaker and special effects artist – has died

John Carl Buechler [pronounced Beekler] – June 18, 1952 to March 18, 2019 – was an American director, actor, and special effects and makeup artist.

Born in Belleville, Illinois, John is probably best known for directing Troll (1986) and Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988) and special effects for From Beyond (1986).

As an actor, he had cameo roles in various films, such as Jack Cracker in Hatchet (2006) and Hatchet II (2010). He was in pre-production for new movies such as Interview with the Devil, when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Personal comment:

I enjoying watching John’s work in Seedpeople and The Gingerdead Man just last night and was prepping Demonic Toys to add to this site tonight when I read about his death; it’s a sad loss to his family, friends and the horror genre.
